Upcoming Basic Pistol Safety Course at Dunham’s Bay

Saturday October 21st – 9:00am – 3:00pm

Pre-registration and Pre-Payment is required

This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.  The all-day course includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; actual shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; and cleaning the pistol.

Because this is a hands-on live-fire handgun shooting course, participants must possess a New York State License to Carry Pistol.  The class fee is $130.  Pre-registration and pre-payment is required.  Seating is limited.  Photographs and fingerprints are not provided in this class.

Participants will receive a certificate acknowledging their completion of a firearm safety and training course conducted by a certified firearm instructor.  This is typically adequate proof of firearm training required for a non-resident firearm license in states like Arizona, Florida, Maine, and Virginia, although we do not guarantee acceptance by any particular state.  It is, of course, solely the individual’s responsibility to ensure that they meet the application requirements for each license they seek.

Our Certified Firearms Instructor, Tom Harig, is a nationally known criminologist with 35+ years of professional experience. He has worked in New York State’s criminal justice agencies; has been a national trainer in numerous events for the US Department of Justice; and has been a trainer and consultant to numerous State and local criminal justice agencies across the country. He is a Certified Firearms Instructor by the National Rifle Association, and he is a Certified Concealed Firearms Instructor by the State of Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification.
