STEC CALLS FOR REPEAL OF THE SAFE ACT IN 2017

“The SAFE Act is an ill-conceived measure that hurts more than it helps; it is very unpopular throughout upstate communities. At times there are issues where Upstate and New York City do not agree, and the SAFE Act is a prime example. In past budgets there have been policy issues with regional carve-outs, for example the minimum wage initiative and local government assistance programs. Assembly Bill 6140 is drafted on this very premise, allowing New York City to keep the SAFE Act, while repealing the most objectionable portions for upstate and Long Island. As budget negotiations continue this month, I think this initiative should be strongly considered.”
