Guidelines for Reopening amid COVID-19

Overview:  The Dunham’s Bay Fish and Game Club, Inc. (i.e., “DBF&G”, “The Club”) is a 501(c)(7) corporation organized…

“…to procure better fishing and hunting for sportsmen in this area; to cooperate in obtaining proper respect for and observation of the New York State Fish and Game Laws; and to promote friendly social contacts among its members.”

The Club’s property and facilities are located at 2080 Ridge Road in Queensbury, New York.  At this location, the Club maintains:

A large clubhouse building which contains indoor meeting seating for the membership, an indoor archery range, a computerized shooting simulator, and two bathrooms.

A dedicated outdoor 25-yard pistol range with 10 shooting lanes.

An outdoor 50-lane rifle/pistol shooting range.

An outdoor 3D archery range.

The Club has approximately 600-650 paid memberships, and is only assessable to members, and not the general public, through a keyed security gate.

As a so-called “non-essential business”, the Club formally closed all of its facilities on Sunday March 22nd in accordance with directives by the State of New York.   The Club intends to engage in a safe and orderly re-opening process once authorized by the State of New York.

The Club’s re-opening plan includes provisions to:

Continue the closure of the clubhouse building until further notice.

Cancellation of on-site meetings/gatherings during May and June 2020.

Require social distancing while members are on-site.

Require the use of facial coverings/masks while members are on-site.

Limit the number of members allowed to use the outdoor range facilities at one time.

Provide outdoor Port-a-John facilities.

Provide sanitization products for before/after use of range facilities.

Temporarily eliminate the collection of spent brass casings by Club volunteers.

Provide multiple signage postings regarding expected precautions by members.

Re-opening Plan

Indoor facilities

The Club’s indoor clubhouse facilities will remain closed until further notice.  The Club will post notice to this effect on all entrances.  Bathroom facilities will not be available.  On-site general membership, Board of Directors, simulator training, archery, 4H, and other indoor uses will be cancelled until further notice.  The building will remain accessible to Building & Grounds volunteers to maintain the security and safety of the facility, and these personnel will be required to wear facial coverings/masks and maintain social distancing while present with others.  In the interim, the Club will intensify efforts to obtain sufficient sanitization products to allow safe re-opening of the facility.

Outdoor Archery Range

No more than three (3) members at a time may use this facility until further notice.  Members must maintain 6-foot social distancing and wear facial coverings/masks while on this range with other members.

Outdoor Pistol Range

No more than four (4) members at a time may use this facility until further notice.  Members may only use lanes #1, #4, #7, and/or #10.  All other lanes will be blocked by covering their target stands with poly garbage bags.  Members must maintain 6-foot social distancing and wear facial coverings/masks while on this range with other members.  Turning target mechanisms will not be available on this range until further notice.  Four (4) bottles of spray disinfectant will be provided in this range area.  Members will be required to spray disinfectant on shooting benches and safety light switches before and after each usage.  Signage will be posted to indicate range use and sanitization requirements.

Outdoor Rifle/Pistol Range

The outdoor rifle range has 45 shooting bench positions.  77% of these (about 35) will be temporarily decommissioned during the pandemic recovery, allowing a maximum of 10 shooters on the range at one time.  These shooting benches will be taped off and signed to indicate closure. This should not be an issue for the club’s membership, since there are seldom 10 members present simultaneously.  A bottle of spray disinfectant will be stationed at each allowed shooting bench. Members must maintain 6-foot social distancing and wear facial coverings/masks while on this range with other members.  Members will be required to spray disinfectant on shooting benches and safety light switches before and after each usage.  Signage will be posted to indicate range use and sanitization requirements.

The outdoor pistol range contained under the rifle canopy can safely support no more than two shooters at one time maintaining appropriate social distancing, and this will be posted as a range limit.  Members must maintain 6-foot social distancing and wear facial coverings/masks while on this range with other members.  Members will be required to spray disinfectant on shooting benches and safety light switches before and after each usage.  Signage will be posted to indicate range use and sanitization requirements.

Bathroom Facilities

The Club will rent two (2) Port-a-John outdoor bathroom facilities for the duration of the COVID-19 recovery period.
